It is a great honour that the choir was invited, by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, to sing in the Service of Thanksgiving in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, on Sunday 18th September, at The Minster, St Thomas’ Square, Newport, Isle of Wight.
Our repertoire was: I Was Glad (Hubert Parry) and God Be In My Head (Walford Davies).
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new
Isle of Wight Cantata Choir Bursary Scheme
As one of the largest and most established choral groups on the Island, we have been performing, promoting and championing the enjoyment of traditional and contemporary classical music, since 1956.
In launching our new Bursary Scheme, we aim to encourage and support talented and promising young singers and musicians on the Island, in their aspirations and pursuit of excellence and further study of music-making and performance.
We Welcome Applications: from 11-19 yr olds from the Island, who are committed to singing or playing an instrument, have made progress and achievement so far, and would like to pursue their dreams and talent further, who would benefit from financial support for funding for e.g. lessons, music, instrument, travel to specialist courses, etc.

It is with much sadness that we inform you that David Martin died this morning, having been ill for a short while.
David had great passion for music and music-making. He joined Cantata a number of years ago, and was a stalwart of the ‘back row basses’ for many years.
Additionally, he was very involved with the Isle of Wight Music Centre and was also 2ndconductor of the Island’s Senior Wind Band.
After some years away from Cantata, David re-joined the choir when our rehearsals re-started last Autumn; sharing his enjoyment for music and singing with his wife, and soprano member, Barbara.
He thoroughly enjoyed singing with us again and remarked on how much pleasure he gained from performing in our Faure concert at the end of October.
David was such a friendly, jolly, enthusiastic and affable character; with a smile and good word for whoever he came into contact with.
He will indeed be very sadly missed.
Our thoughts and good wishes are with his wife Barbara, family and friends.
