We are very sad to announce that past Soprano member Sally Kimpton died on 4th October, after enduring a very aggressive brain tumour.
Sally joined Cantata in 2012, and was a committed member of the front row 1st Sopranos for 8 years, until rehearsals ceased in March 2020; due to the Covid Pandemic.
Sally was a keen singer and music was very important to her. She loved singing with Cantata Choir, and relayed to friends how attending rehearsals and participating in concerts made her happy and fulfilled.
Sally felt unable to return to singing at the end of the Pandemic, due to her vulnerability as an asthmatic.
However, she became a passionate and devoted owner to a rescue dog, who had experienced the loss of his various previous owners and thus struggled with separation anxiety.
Sally’s funeral will take place at 11.15am, on Tuesday 7th November, at the Isle of Wight Crematorium.
There will be a reception afterwards, at the Horse and Groom pub, in Ningwood.
Sally will be remembered with great fondness, so if anyone would like to join in celebrating her life, you would be very welcome to attend on Tue 7th.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with Sally’s family and friends.

Our Autumn 2023 Concert is a beautiful, rousing, joyous and uplifting programme of Classical Greats from the 1960’s.
Ariel Ramirez’s ‘Misa Criolla’: with its vibrant accompaniment celebrates the uplifting beats and beautiful melodies and rhythms of Argentinian Folk Music; combining sacred mass with the deeply-rooted musical rituals and dances of Latin America.
Leonard Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story Choral Selection’: displays the rhythmic colours of Puerto Rican culture jostling against the jazz of modern New York, in favourites such as – ‘I Feel Pretty’, ‘America’ and ‘Maria’.
And, Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’ is altogether life-affirming and hopeful, with its combination of Hebrew and Christian choral tradition, and bright, energetic, yet accessible style.
As a celebration of musical and cultural traditions from around the world – there is something for everyone.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sally Vinson, on Monday 24th April, after a long period of illness, Alzheimers and Cancer.
Sally was an Alto member who left the choir many years ago, but her daughter Lucy Dawson has recounted how much her mother absolutely loved singing, being a Cantata member, and participating in our concerts…and also that Lucy herself has many fond memories of supporting her mum and the choir over the years from the audience.
Some of you may recall, back in 2006, supporting Sally and singing alongside her, Lucy, and her then 9 yr old son, Oscar, at the service for Sally’s late husband, John, at St Peter’s Church, Seaview.
There will be a Service for Sally, on Tuesday 9th May, at 2pm, in St Peter’s Church, Church Street, Seaview PO34 5EN.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with Sally’s daughter Lucy, and family and friends.
